inclusive design & the senses

Research allows for investigation and inquiry into the area of human behavior and the ability to design for a wide range of users. My interests lie with those who are on the fringes. Considerations of cognition, mobility, and the ability to see and hear drive my work in this area. I regularly partner with organizations to create accessible design for the web, mobile, and printed communications. Outcomes have resulted in workshops, training sessions, and consulting partnerships with leading organizations such as the Vera Institute of Justice.

Questions

  • How can designers make accessible communication and experiences seamless and integrated into everyday activities?

  • What is needed to make accessibility a first consideration in the design process?

  • What does inclusive design look like? How can it be measured?

  • What tools do designers need in the design process to allow for a more human, inclusive experience?
